Hypersensitive,
flinches when touched. Broke out of round pen. What can we do to help her
relax and trust us? If we can't get through to her then we'll have to find
her a new home. She
is afraid of being separated from the herd, which is why she broke out of the
pen. She is all too aware that her life is worth little and she could end up
as dinner. Being alone reminds her of that vulnerability. It feels as if she
actually heard conversations joking about having horse for dinner. That
terrified her and exacerbated her twitchy problem. She
has a magnesium deficiency that causes her to be twitchy and to have more
difficult heat cycles. She is lacking in other minerals as well, but
magnesium is the most crucial to address immediately. She says the buzzing in
her skin is like a swarm of gnats and makes it impossible to relax. She finds
it hard to even get restful sleep, as the nerve endings are so
hypersensitive. She
says if you can fix the twitchy problem then she'll make a big effort to
stand for the farrier and vet. Right now it's just too painful to be touched.
With her tingling nerves, only the gentlest touch is bearable. She
doesn't feel safe. Even though you've been kind to her, she feels it is only
a matter of time before she is shipped off somewhere. Your recent frustration
and decision to rehome her has confirmed that belief. Her life has been
sorely lacking in stability. She wants to let go of the fear and allow
herself to trust, but hasn't yet been able to find the strength within
herself to do so. (I
have explained that you love her and are only concerned about doing what is
best for her. I have asked her to make a genuine effort to relax and
demonstrate that she understands.) She
wants to know if you will make her have babies? She doesn't think she wants
to do that. In her mind babies are associated with the PMU factory. That was
an awful life and it would be better to be dead than live that way. She
likes to be called "Beautiful Girl" and she likes her name. She says
it's pretty and feminine. She also says she's not fat she's just big boned.
Apparently someone has insulted her sensibilities at some point. She would like you to slowly and gently stroke her face. She
finds that comforting. She thinks she'd like you to scratch her belly too,
but is a little afraid of that. She'll make an effort to be calm if you'll
try. |
